I came to this health retreat with my eyes open. I didn’t need to necessarily lose weight (being of a slim build), my priority was to learn how to take care of myself and be the best I could be. Years of stress and anxiety had taken its toll. Sue is an amazing mentor. If you choose to share then she is willing to offer her wisdom, if you choose not then she respects that. I found it easier than I could have imagined. The first 2-3 days of detox involves primarily water and Sue’s special ‘paste’. I wasn’t hungry. The soups were fantastic. The daily sauna assisted with any muscle fatigue after long walks and even the ocean swim in cold water was amazingly great (it’s all about the mind-set). The stretching and daily yoga alleviated any pain as well. I have never felt better!
I’m now home and continue with the wisdom. I walk in the morning at 6am, drink at least 3 litre of water every day, and eat 10/20/70.
I know I lead a stressful life and this impacts on my health. This was the tonic I needed. I have booked again and will continue every six months from now until I need to. This was the best money I have ever spent on my health. The only ‘downside’ for me was the need to look after my psychological well-being and this was not a focus. I feel my physical health and psychological health are linked. However, Sue uses yoga well and I feel this is a good avenue to ensure better psychological well-being. I can’t recommend this retreat more. It is suited to a person who is dedicated to their health, well-being and longevity. It is not an easy week but I can guarantee you will feel amazing at the end. If you place your trust in Sue, she won’t let you down.

For a long time I had wanted to experience a Health retreat whereby I could reset my body and re-energise after having children and enduring some stressful times. My cousin also felt the same and we feel so lucky that we chose the KI Health retreat and to have met Sue McCarthy. I came away with a firm understanding about how our bodies and digestive systems interrelate with food and what exercises specifically help our body function the best it can as we age. Even though I had a background as an elite athlete and P.E. teacher who understood nutrition, the knowledge I gained cemented everything I learned over many years and was so practical and relevant. My goal was to ‘kickstart’ the body which was, at the time, in pre menopausal stage, and to lose some Kg’s and get the metabolism firing again. Armed with a fabulous detox program over 5 days and education about our bodies, the need to drink at least 3 litres of water per day ( 5 on the retreat ), coupled with dry brushing during hour long saunas, pilates and yoga, long energetic walks, dips in the ocean, massage machines and healthy balanced nutritious meals on the last few days, Sue managed to counsel all of us and shared her vast knowledge of life. It was an honour to have met her and it was worth every penny and 10 fold. If you want to have a total break and learn about yourself, drop some weight, reset the body and clear the head, it is a must to investigate this retreat. It is a real challenge but worth it. The follow up program helps set healthy eating habits for life and makes one realise you only have one body and you have to look after it. I can’t rate it highly enough but one has to surrender to the program for it to work and for one to get the benefit.

My husband is a personal trainer and had always wanted to do a health retreat holiday so I booked the Dynamic Detox couples retreat for him and I to come in March.
I did a lot of research into many health retreats and KIHR was the only one that truly stood out as a detox and a more immersive experience than simply getting massages.
I am so glad that we choose this retreat. We left quite a few kilos and centimetres lighter but our stress levels have been obliterated and we are now ready to take on anything life throws at us!
The program is tough (which is what we wanted) and this is only when you make a change. This retreat is not a holiday but a lifestyle change, if that is what you are looking for.
The scenery is brilliant but what you really get for your money is Sue and her knowledge. What an inspiring woman! The amount of herself that she gives to her clients is unbelievable and we couldn’t believe the energy and vigour that she has; clearly a testiment to her lifestyle and what she teaches!
I am so glad we did this, the experience was amazing, Sue was brilliant and the retreat itself of beautiful- waking up each day to the sunrise over the bay and Sue’s beautiful garden was inspiring.
I would recommend March as a perfect time to go as it is still lovely and warm for the sea swims!

I have just completed my second visit to KIHR after great results from my first visit this time i took my 25 year old son with me & shared the experiance with him. Max was very overweight & struggling to lose weight. After a week with Sue he had lost 4kg & 7 cm of his belly but more importantly he learned what practices to put in place so that he could continue his weight loss journey at home which he has factored into his daily life. I also had a very good week losing 5kg & 7 cm of my gut. It is certainatly not a holiday camp but if you put the work in you will get the results. Sues nutruitional information sessions are a great insight into how the body works & what it needs to flourish.

Your personal innovator and instructor extraordinaire Sue, is so welcoming and warm but balanced with making sure every individual gets the best out of the detox they can! My wife and I just spent a week with Sue and her beautiful Kangaroo Island in what was a challenging week full of personal rewards. Straight up we both lost 4/5 kg each. Lowered blood pressure and felt great for the time away.
The four very busy days you will be kept moving with walking yoga stretching sauna. BIG tip is to do plenty of road walking prior to starting. If you don’t you will get blisters and it’s not fun.
Walks range from 6 to 14k in our week averaging 14-20k per day.
This retreat is not easy but will get results. I’m 90kg with the dramatic reductions in food and the water intake of 8L per day I was never really hungry. When it did come time to eat normal size meals day four Sue’s cooking was excellent.
Also there are daily lectures on nutrition that are well presented.
Sue is a legend full of life experiences, when you first meet Sue do not judge a book by it cover rather just let the week unfold.

We have been through the couple dynamic detox at the Kangaroo Island Retreat in March. The program was a step-wise journey and Sue has been our role model for the whole week. The changes have been spectacular. We have not only lost weigh, got relaxed but we have somehow reset. The first improvement was the smell. Second sight and finally a general well being. You need to trust the program because the changes are visible starting with the 3rd day. In summary, I believe the program has prepared us for later experiences of a deeper and more expansive quality. This is the whole meaning of the program. We have enjoyed the experience and we will enjoy coming back in the future.

When I booked a Dynamic Detox at Kangaroo Island Health Retreat, I was nervous. I went with my husband and didn’t know what to expect. Nearly four months on and we are still reaping the benefits. Sure, it’s quite hard when you are there. But the effect is long-lasting. You get back your energy, your health, your vitality. What is more precious than that? I’ve always struggled to get up in the morning. After the retreat, I was bounding out of bed at 6.30am. We’ve changed our diet for the long term, neither of us have gone back to caffeine, we’ve been following Sue’s health and nutrition plan… and oh boy! It makes such a difference. The weight has stayed off, our meal plans have been transformed. We’ve been telling all our friends and family… and we will be back!

It’s hard to capture in a review what this week will do for you. It’s not the detox you are getting it’s Sue’s 35 years in working with over 10,000 people compressed into 5 days with Sue by your side helping you through it. Expect to be challenged, expect to realise you have been doing it wrong but you already know that’s and it’s why your here on this website hunting, searching for a more sustainable way to do life. Look no further ! My wife and I thought were very fit and healthy people but after spending time here KI Health retreat we realised it needed tweaking. The lessons learned around Nutition, digestion, disease prevention are beyond fathomable. If you could bottle Sue’s knowledge on these aspects you could sell it for millions. However that’s not what Sue wants. All Sue wants is 5 days. 5 days of total commitment, listen, learn, be a student and when you come back. Nothing is the same. This course in my opinion is relatively inexpensive for the take away and knowledge you gain. Thanks Sue we are healthier, happier and won’t be the same again!

We are 2 doctors leading busy lives. Let’s face it, who doesn’t these days?
We try to eat reasonably well and exercise when we can but life often gets in the way, and we had a few bad habits. With a disappointingly high cholesterol blood result and high blood pressure, we both needed something to prompt a change, and so we booked a couples dynamic detox at Kangaroo Island Health Retreat.
It was with some trepidation that we stepped of the plane to be taken to Kangaroo Island Health Retreat at Emu Bay. Sue had given us some preparatory diet suggestions, along with increasing water intake to at least 3 litres per day, but the thought of drinking 6 litres of water per day or more, with soup and fruit for sustenance whilst exercising for 5 hours a day or more was daunting.
We needn’t have worried. The exercise programme was step-wise, with good walks (followed by a bracing dip in the ocean which was amazingly invigorating), as was the water drinking.
Alongside the exercise programme was some refreshingly sensible nutritional advice, along with some cooking classes, where wholesome foods were prepared in less than 20 minutes – but looked and tasted wonderful.
After 5 days, nearly 70kms of walking and hours in the sauna and on exercise bikes, we left feeling refreshed, relaxed and in a better headspace.
We needed a ‘system reboot’ and the break at KIHR was a great way to achieve it. We have continued to make ‘me–time’ for exercise, and have incorporated the menu ideas into our meals which are so easy to pack full of veggies – even our 17 year old son enjoys a plate full of salad leaves with the way they are prepared!
We needed to re-set our lifestyle, and the break at KIHR helped us do this.

This is a life-changing experience!! If you really want to change your life, break old habits, and learn about health and nutrition, then Kangaroo Island Health Retreat is the place to go. This is my second visit to KI Health Retreat. I did a Mini-Detox in October and I loved it so much, and found it so beneficial, that I bought my partner back to do the Dynamic Couple Full-Detox at the end of December. I am already planning my next trip! Sue facilitates the whole week, and is with you every step of the way. During your time there, Sue teaches about exercise, nutrition, how the body functions, and much, much more! It was exactly what we were in need of.
